Biography

Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning

Key interests and achievements

Rebecca was first elected to the National Assembly for Wales in 2011 to represent the region of Mid and West Wales. In 2016 she became Assembly Member for Gower.

In June 2014, Rebecca was appointed Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, and in May 2016 she became Minister for Social Services and Public Health. In November 2017, she was appointed Minister for Housing and Regeneration, and in December 2018 she joined the Cabinet as Minister for Finance and Trefnydd. On 13 May 2021 Rebecca was appointed Minister for Finance and Local Government.

Personal history

Rebecca was educated at the University of Leeds, where she studied History. She also received a Master of Philosophy degree in Historical Studies from the University of Cambridge.

Rebecca lives in Gower with her husband.

Professional background

Before becoming an Assembly Member, Rebecca worked in the third sector.

Political history

In the Fourth Assembly, Rebecca was appointed to the Health and Social Care Committee, and the Environment and Sustainability Committee and its Common Agricultural Policy Task and Finish Group. She also served on the Children, Young People and Education Committee.

Also in the Fourth Assembly, Rebecca was Chair of the Cross-Party Groups on Disability, Mental Health, and Nursing and Midwifery; and was Vice-Chair of the Cross-Party Groups on Faith, Autism, and Beer and the Pub. She was an officer of several other Cross-Party Groups, including Neurological Conditions, and Older People.
