Delyth Jewell, Chair of the Senedd’s Sport Committee said:

“Following allegations of sexism and misogyny at the WRU last year we as a Senedd committee promised to hold them to account until these issues were tackled.

“It is clear from our session with the WRU today that progress has been made, and we appreciate the openness and sincerity that was evident from the WRU leadership.

“The WRU, however, is only at the start of an important journey. The controversy surrounding the senior women’s team contract negotiations is concerning and shows that there is still work to be done. We are reassured that the WRU has clearly acknowledged the issues and that they are willing to learn from other organisations such as the FAW.

“On behalf of the people of Wales, we will continue to hold the WRU to account through our inquiries.

“The recommendations from the Independent Review at the Welsh Rugby Union must be implemented so that Welsh rugby is a safe space for all.

“Welsh rugby holds a special place in the Welsh psyche – we all need it to succeed.”
